Memphis Grizzlies backup center Deyonta Davis looks to play a larger role in Year Two -- perhaps along with a new uniform number.
Deyonta Davis is the future plan for the Memphis Grizzlies at the backup center position. Marc Gasol has taken the youngster under his wing in order to groom him properly for the spotlight.
Memphis did not see Deyonta Davis on most nights in his rookie season -- appearing in just 36 games while averaging 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest.
However, this should change dramatically in 2017-18. Deyonta better be ready because he will be in the frontcourt mix and has a huge opportunity to make an impact in his sophomore season.
On Friday, Davis went to social media and posted a picture of himself from his high school days at Muskegon High School in Michigan.
The picture depicted him wearing the number 21 with his caption of "I'm back."
It appears Deyonta is switching from his Grizzly number 23 to the 21 of his younger days. This would allow Grizzlies newcomer Ben McLemore to retain the number 23, which he has always owned in the NBA and during his days as a Kansas Jayhawk.
Blu3 World Order is awaiting confirmation from Deyonta Davis' agent and will update the story with details once available.
As of 7/30/17 at 4:10 PM, Blu3 World Order is able to confirm that Deyonta Davis has officially changed his jersey number from 23 to 21.
