Tigers Enter Conference Tournament With More Than A Fighting Chance

Before the Tigers lopsided 83-53 victory over East Carolina this past Sunday, Memphis head coach Josh Pastner mentioned how his intent for his team was to win four games in a row. This would include the regular season finale against the Pirates that has now already been achieved as well as winning the three possible games ahead of him to win the American Athletic Conference and of course gain an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament. Regardless of the Tigers 17-14 record overall and 8-10 record within their conference, many believe that if the Tigers are able to able to pull it all together down the stretch, that they have as much as a chance to win the tournament as any one else.

Tigers Trump Tulsa; Pastner Plans On Returning Next Season

The front court duo of Shaq Goodwin and Dedric Lawson combined for 55 points and 23 rebounds as the Tigers (16-13, 7-9) defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (19-10,11-6) 92-72 at home Sunday afternoon at the FedEx Forum. The Tigers would squander an early 10-point lead, being up 22-12 allowing Tulsa to lead by one, 47-46 at the half. Behind inside play by Lawson and Goodwin combined by pesky defense on the perimeter, the Tigers were able to overcome the effort of the Golden Hurricane, who were led by Shaq Harrison and his 20-point performance.

Huskies Trample Tigers in Tale of Two Halves

A slow start would not be to blame Thursday night as the Memphis Tigers (13-9, 4-5) suffered an embarrassing home loss to UCONN (16-6, 6-3) 77-57 at the FedEx Forum. Lead by Shonn Miller (14 points), Daniel Hamilton (16 points), and Rodney Purvis (15 points), the Huskies trio would prove to be too much for the struggling Tigers, scoring easily in transition and capitalizing on the Tigers 20 turnovers.
