Norvell’s First Class Shines and Surprises On Signing Day

University of Memphis head coach Mike Norvell had a lot to do in not a lot of time in regards to recruiting his first class of signees for the Tigers. He didn’t let that phase him as he hauled in a total of 21 young men that will be part of the future for his program. 247 Sports ranked the class 64th overall, with 18 three-star ranked players. This would also rank them fourth in the American Athletic Conference.

Lawson Returns To Form In Lopsided Victory Over South Florida

After last week’s nail-biter against Temple, Tiger freshman Dedric Lawson commented about how he is still working his way back to the level of play that he was at before he suffered an abdominal injury a few weeks ago. Last Saturday in a 71-56 win against the South Florida Bulls (3-16, 0-6) Lawson proved himself to be one step closer if not all the way back to being at the form that had many listing him among the best freshmen in the country.

Tigers Edge Owls Thanks To Tarrant’s Poise Under Pressure and Pain

Despite a nearly disastrous turnover by Trahson Burrell under the opposing basket in the closing seconds, the Tigers (11-5, 2-1) toppled the Temple Owls (8-7, 3-1) in what has been a typical close game between the two conference rivals. After making one of two free throws to put the Tigers up two 65-63, Temple wing Daniel Dingle missed on a potential game winning three-point attempt with under five seconds remaining. Burrell would secure the rebound and later surrender the ball on an errant pass attempt. Temple guard Josh Brown, who is known to be a Tiger heartbreaker from last season’s bank shot buzz-beater against Memphis, would steal Burrell’s pass and score immediately to tie the game.
